The operations of KCMBA are supported by a staff of fifteen full-time employees, led by Executive Director Vickie Schatz. While working in several different departments, our common goal is to ensure that attorneys in the Kansas City area view KCMBA as a valuable resource in enhancing their experience as legal professionals. Vickie is the chief operating officer and managing executive of KCMBA and KCMBF. Vickie oversees the development of programs and policies, provides direction to the Board of Directors, and supervises day-to-day operations. Vickie is also responsible for supervising fiscal and budgetary matters including budget preparation and accounting, managing the implementation of the mission statement and ensuring the effectiveness of the KCMBA staff.
Jamesetta is responsible for answering KCMBA’s main phone line, answering general questions about KCMBA, and directing incoming calls to staff members. She also assists the Executive Director in scheduling, planning and preparing for meetings, arranging travel, and preparing correspondence. Jamesetta provides general administrative support to other KCMBA staff members, as needed.
Director of Finance & Administration
Len is responsible for the administration and accuracy of the financial activities and human resource functions of KCMBA and KCMBF. Len provides oversight of all financial operations, including accounting, auditing, budgeting, cost-containment, cash control, payroll, tax filing, accounts receivable and payable, asset accounting, employee benefits, insurance and related financial reporting.
Director of Communications & Membership
Tracey is responsible for all aspects of membership, including recruitment and retention. She also oversees KCMBA’s communications and marketing, including the management of the publication of the KC Counselor and Bar Directory and the development and maintenance of the website. Tracey also coordinates and manages special events such as the Bench-Bar & Boardroom Conference, Annual Meeting, and the Liberty & Justice Gala.
Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Foundation Coordinator
Mindy is responsible for coordinating all elements of the Foundation’s signature programs, “Legal Connection: Military Matters and the Domestic Violence and Children Interdisciplinary Conference. She manages the planning and execution of the Foundation’s Liberty & Justice Gala and the Lawyers Encouraging Academic Performance (LEAP) events. Mindy is also responsible for maintaining the foundation’s existing grants as well as securing funding through additional grant opportunities and fundraising events. She provides administrative support to the Foundation Board of Directors and sub-committees.
Director of Sections & CLE
Kim is responsible for KCMBA’s Sections and Committees, providing support to leadership and members in their various roles and activities including special events associated with the Sections and Committees. Kim is also responsible for KCMBA’s Continuing Legal Education program providing oversight with strategic planning, budgeting and marketing of programs which encompasses the Ross T. Roberts Trial Academy program.
Phoebe is responsible for live and online KCMBA Continuing Legal Education event registrations, creating event flyers, distributing speaker material, producing event attendee rosters and working live seminars. Phoebe is also responsible for marketing programs.
Manager of Publications & Design
Rachel is responsible for KCMBA’s graphic design, photography, marketing and communications. She also oversees layout and design of KCMBA’s KC Counselor and Bar Directory. Among other things, Rachel also produces the weekly Sidebar and photographs events.
Manager of Marketing & Communications
Carody is responsible for advertising sales in the KC Counselor and Bar Directory. Carody also manages sponsorship sales for special events such as the Bench-Bar & Boardroom Conference and the Liberty & Justice Gala as well as some of our larger CLEs. She oversees our Affinity Program and other partnership agreements between KCMBA and vendors.
Manager of CLE
Jesse is responsible for the production, logistics and implementation of CLE programs. He works with the CLE Director to assist with the planning, budgeting, and accreditation of CLE programming. In addition, Jesse serves as staff liaison to the Trial Academy Committee and assists the courts in the planning and execution of the Trial Academy.
Director of Information Technology
Greg evaluates, maintains and upgrades all Association hardware and software including the conference center equipment. He is responsible for the upkeep of the Association’s membership database and the courthouse security pass system. Greg also provides technical support for the KCMBA website and resolves user issues such as login failures.
Manager of Sections & Administration
Ashley assists the Director of Sections & CLE by providing support in planning, scheduling and supporting committee meetings, membership socials, and special events including the Heartland Diversity Job Fair, Law Week and the YLS Golf Tournament. Ashley also coordinates and administers the day-to-day operations of the KCMBA Fee Dispute Program and provides assistance to the Director of Finance & Administration.
Brendan is responsible for interfacing with members about joining and renewing their memberships, as well as updating and maintaining member information in KCMBA’s database for the Bar Directory. He also creates and updates content on the KCMBA website as well as aiding in the development of other websites created for KCMBA. Brendan also handles social media, including KCMBA’s Twitter, Facebook, and Linkedin accounts.
Facilities & Meeting Services Coordinator
Julie oversees the scheduling, setup, and catering for the conference center as well as KCMBA’s other meeting rooms. Julie coordinates the technical details for events at KCMBA’s headquarters, such as CLEs, mediations, arbitrations and depositions. Julie also works as the primary contact for clients looking to rent any of KCMBA’s spaces.
