Explicit & Implicit Bias: How They Influence Law Practice

This program will provide an overview of the explicit and implicit biases that occur and how to recognize natural implicit bias to “check” refrain from explicit bias, which is conscious and controllable. It will show us the varying manifestations in the legal profession and the threat to fairness posed by judges, advocates, litigants, and jurors who come to the table with implicit biases that influence how they interpret evidence, understand facts, and parse legal principles.
