Volunteer Opportunities

KCMBA offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities to engage with the Kansas City community.  Volunteer to speak at CLEs, lead sections or committees, and donate your time in one of KCMBF's signature programs Legal Connection: Domestic Violence Alliance, Legal Connection: Military Matters, and Legal Connection: Student Law Academy. Law firms are also invited to participate in Project Pro Bono, a special partnership between  KCMBA and Legal Aid of Western Missouri.

PROJECT PRO BONO

Launched in 2013, Project Pro Bono is a partnership between KCMBA and Legal Aid of Western Missouri with the purpose of encouraging law firms to help expand the availability of pro bono legal services in the Kansas City area. Law firms that sign the Pro Bono Pledge promise to make a commitment to the provision of pro bono legal services in the Kansas City area by actively seeking opportunities to provide pro bono services, setting specific goals for yearly pro bono work, and encouraging firm-wide participation in pro bono initiatives.

Firms are encouraged to participate in this program, as it recognizes their work in the community. Quarterly, pro bono hours are gathered by Legal Aid of Western Missouri and published in the KC Counselor, KCMBA's magazine. View the Pro Bono Pledge.

PRO BONO CHAMPION

Do you know someone who demonstrates a commitment to the community through their pro bono efforts? Project Pro Bono recognizes excellence in pro bono work for low-income Missourians and Kansans with its Pro Bono Champion award. Applicants must be a member of KCMBA. Pro bono is defined as free legal work provided to a client.

Nominate a friend or colleague to be a Pro Bono Champion. All submissions for the upcoming month are due by 4 PM on the last business day of each month. Recipients are chosen by a panel of state court judges. For more information on this process, contact Latricia Scott Adams at (816) 421-8020 or [email protected].
