Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Courthouse Security Pass?

A Courthouse Security Pass allows attorneys in good standing to bypass security lines at both Jackson County courthouses and the Kansas City, Missouri, Municipal Court during regular courthouse hours.

What hours will my Pass work?

Your Courthouse Security Pass is active only during regular courthouse hours, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Can I obtain a new Pass online, or is an in-person visit required?

Yes. The entire application process can be completed online, including the required identity verification through a brief Microsoft Teams meeting.

Can I walk in and get a Pass?

Walk-ins are welcome; however, appointments are preferred. Scheduling an appointment helps minimize your wait time and ensures staff are available to assist you promptly.

How long does the application process take?

The application process typically takes 1–2 business days, depending on how quickly all required documents are submitted.

How long will it take for my Pass to be activated?

After your Pass has been printed, the courts require 5–10 business days to activate it.

How long will it take to receive my Pass in the mail?

If you choose to have your Pass mailed, it typically arrives within one week, although delivery times may vary depending on your location.

I found an old Pass. Can I use it?

No. Once a Pass has been reported lost and deactivated, it cannot be reactivated.

Can I have more than one active Pass?

No. Only one active Courthouse Security Pass may be issued to an individual at a time.

My Pass was lost, stolen, or damaged. What should I do?

Please complete the Replacement Pass Application and upload it along with the following:

  • A copy of your current driver's license
  • A copy of your current State Bar card
  • A few available dates and times for your verification appointment

A brief Microsoft Teams meeting (approximately 5–10 minutes) is required to verify your identity before a replacement Pass can be issued.

My Pass isn't working. What should I do?

First, confirm that you have renewed your Pass for the current Pass year by checking your member profile.

  • If you have not renewed, complete your renewal and allow 5–10 business days for court activation.
  • If you have renewed, inspect your Pass for cracks, bends, or other damage. Then email [email protected] with the four- or five-digit number printed on the back of your Pass and the courthouse where you experienced the issue.
Why doesn't my Pass work when it's inside my wallet?

If you keep your Pass in your wallet while scanning, make sure it is not positioned next to another RFID-enabled card. Multiple RFID cards can interfere with the scanner and prevent your Pass from working properly.

Can my Pass be suspended or revoked?

Yes. To remain eligible for a Courthouse Security Pass, you must remain in good standing with the Missouri or Kansas State Bar. If you are no longer in good standing, your Pass may be suspended or revoked.

Do you prorate Pass fees?

No. Passes are not prorated. Each Pass year runs from August 1 through July 31, regardless of when the Pass is purchased. To receive the greatest value, we recommend purchasing or renewing early.

Can I receive a refund?

No. Courthouse Security Pass fees are nonrefundable.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept:

  • Checks
  • E-Checks or ACH
  • Visa
  • Mastercard
  • Discover
  • American Express
  • Any Debit Cards

Cash is not accepted.

I'm retiring. What should I do with my Pass?
